Hi, I am working as website designer for small and medium businesses for more than 4 years and in these 4 years I have visited 100s of Pakistani Government Websites and I think it’s time to update many of our official websites.
If you are a government officer and have authority to change the website design, layout, content and responsiveness, please read this blog and then reach out to me on contact given below and I will go through your department’s website and share list of updates.

Here is few common problems on most of websites;
- SSL Issues
(It is Digital Security Certificate to make your website secure for yourself and user too) - No updated contact information
(Contact number, email id or even social media handles) - Incomplete information
(About the department, current heads of the dep and services that dep provides) - Old Design
(feels like some kid worked on website in 1990 and the website’s department has been closed) - Responsiveness issue
(Cannot open on mobile devices as 70% are mobile users, our website should be responsive on all devices) - Layout
(Layout is outdated seems like there was no planning while designing website) - Content is not updated
(Images, videos or written content is old and out of context) - URL’s do not work
(Links do not take to desired page, some deleted others don’t work) - Functionalities issues
- No contact form to gather queries
(Almost every website should have contact form to receive queries on emails) - Outdated development languages
(Developed websites in html and now there are many amazing technologies in the market) - Loading time issues
(It takes ages to load website and till it opens, user loose interest and go to some other option) - Color scheme issues
(Colors of the website do not match with anything
So the next question is why government websites are so ill designed and not updated?
I know there are loads of improvements required in this area and unfortunately I think here is list of reasons why Pakistani Government Websites lack in many things and need improvements;
- Our Decision maker is 60-70 years old
(I respect them a lot, they are well educated and amazing people but truth to be told they do not understand latest tech updates) - Too many layers in decision making
(One decision has to go through 3-10 people just for small change, update or upgrade) - Budget Issue
(As it’s government’s work, there are high chances of corruption, one trick is that lower staff does not work on quick solution as if project will be finished in time there won’t be room for improvements and they will not have time to get additional budget for that project)
